Fascinated by artists like R.E.M. and U2, he sought to transform words, images, and experiences into something that could live on through the listener’s interpretation. That communicative desire gradually led him to the guitar and songwriting.
His musical journey has passed through various identities, from Nascent to Urban Hermits, including a period living in Hungary and performances at Liverpool’s legendary Cavern Club. After a time away from the music scene shaped by family and personal priorities, his return to songwriting took on new meaning: music became a space to process vulnerability, relationships, loss, and how we choose to use our time. It was during this second creative phase that the identity of StrawMan was established.
The name comes from the straw man fallacy, but Bonner turns the principle on its head: his songs do not seek to tell listeners what to think. Through stories, metaphors, and personal experiences, they raise questions and leave room for interpretation.
