What Is the Essence / Inspiration Behind the Song “Armour”?
In the words of nitamortei:
“‘Armour’ is a track questioning a transient state between past and new skin. A way to say goodbye to something precious, meaningful, loved, even aware we do not belong to it anymore.
This ‘armour’, that I ended up feeling as a skin, comes from grief and years of shadow work. This dress has been a transformative support that led me to process what felt heavy and dark as protection. It was given to me by a friend from Berlin in Athens five years ago as I finished building a giant puppet wolf for a show. After five years of travels and performances with these objects, they had shifted from protections to burden and I had to let them go.
The dress remained as a memory, a talisman, of this skin that was mine, and helped me during the shift. I hold it both in grief and strength, knowing that this memory is shaping a new armour, a new sound, as it is the entrance to this new EP. I hold the red dress, as a dead organism, on point to let it go and transform. This first track is still a trace of all wild voices entering a new era, sharper, way lighter, wilder and percussive.”

More About nitamortei
nitamortei is a vocalist, producer, and performer operating between Paris and London. Their practice explores the voice as an evolving sonic body, at the intersection of flamenco textures, repetitive rhythms, and the tension between human presence and machine systems.
Blending improvised orchestral vocals, electronic production, and field recordings, they create immersive performances where voice becomes both instrument and environment, carrying traces of past encounters like sonic ghosts.
Emerging from Athens’ experimental scene and moving through Berlin, Mallorca, London, and Paris, nitamortei navigates formats ranging from live concerts and DJ sets to all-night hybrid performances. With all wild voices—their debut solo EP—and the FLAMENC<3RAS DJ set, they invite audiences into raw, textural landscapes where trip-hop-infused rhythms meet the visceral power of untamed voices.
Collaborating internationally across music, performance, and sound design, nitamortei develops projects that bridge artistic disciplines and foreground the voice as a site of transformation, transmission, and collective experience.

Armour • nitamortei • Indie Valley Music Review
“Armour” is more than a song—it is a sonic ritual. The piece defies genre categorization, though rooted in experimental electronic music, infused with existential lyricism, subtle metaphor, spirituality, and vibrant conceptualism.
The journey begins with an organic loop processed with reverb and delay: a relaxing, spatial, and immersive white noise that immediately establishes a meditative and sensory atmosphere. To this, a pulsing yet non-intrusive metallic electronic sound is added—an introspective alarm that awakens the senses without breaking calm.
At 0:15, a whispered sigh, ethereal and expertly panned in stereo, introduces a human dimension. Soon after, breaths and inhalations enter the soundscape, creating intimacy, relaxation, and intrigue. By 0:26, the metallic texture gains prominence, establishing an ambient rhythmic pattern that intertwines with breath, while the ethereal backdrop grows in a subtle crescendo.
At 0:36, the first vocal layer appears: a sonic mantra (“ommm… ohhhh…”) that stretches through time—enveloping, spatial, and meditative. Around it, masterfully processed organic textures—including the sound of flowing water, like a stream—weave an ever-deepening sensory web.
At 1:18, new reverberant vocal layers enter at different pitches, forming a full, harmonious ethereal choir. Immersion intensifies.
At 1:26, the lyrical verses begin, sung in a voice that is calm, soft, passive, and deeply soothing, slightly above the instrumentation—present without overpowering. The sound of flowing water swells, as do all elements, in perfect synergy. The lyrics act as a conceptual thread: introspective, enveloping, cathartic. Each phrase anchors us in the present, making us feel alive, accompanied by a voice that doesn’t just sing—but guides.
Around 2:00, a shift occurs: organic elements recede, leaving only ethereal, airy, three-dimensional vocal layers, exquisitely panned—a caress for the ears, present yet gentle.
Gradually, the sounds return: at 2:28, loops, white noise, and the metallic texture reemerge in an improvised, progressive flow, without linear rhythm. At 2:34, new vocal layers intone “ahhhhh…” in a celestial, meditative tone.
Finally, at 2:59, everything fades. Voice, sounds, textures… dissolve until, in the silence, a soft clink—like stones falling—is heard, closing the cycle: a sonic farewell that seems to whisper what words do not say: “Thank you for teaching me. Now I must move on without you.”

“Armour” is, without a doubt, a work that transcends music itself: sensory, intimate, conceptual, and profoundly existential. It is heard, it is felt… it is experienced.
NITAMORTEI does not craft songs—they build universes. Their work inhabits a space where experimental electronics, performance, and the voice as ritual body converge into cathartic and spiritual experiences. Here, every sound is memory; every silence, release.
It is a great honor for us to present “Armour” by nitamortei. Go listen to this track on your favorite streaming platform and let yourself be transformed by its sonic ritual.
