Soft riot pop for broken hearts and blown-out amps—where vulnerability becomes an act of resistance.
Indie Music From Germany
With their third single, “Stop the Sky” (November 28, 2025), the German duo kamikaze expands the emotional scope of their debut album—scheduled for 2026—with a thoughtful, critical new facet. Following the dreamy ambivalence of “Dreamland” and the defiant self-empowerment of “Hell”, Jessi and Flo now turn their focus to the tension between inner and outer worlds: between longing and overload.
Musically, jangle guitars and luminous pop melodies craft a soundscape that feels both weighed down and weightless—until the built-up tension explodes in a cathartic chorus. Once again, the duo proves that vulnerability is not weakness, but a source of strength.
kamikaze | Soft Riot Pop | Authentic Music, No Posturing
kamikaze is the charged antagonism of tension and enthusiasm. Since 2017, the duo from Cologne and Düsseldorf has been dissolving the boundaries between pop appeal and punk attitude: dreamy melancholy meets rebellious euphoria. They describe their sound as “soft riot pop”—a blend of bittersweet melodies, clear convictions, and a lived DIY ethos. Their lyrics are, all at once, relatable, subversive, emotional, and resilient.
Jessi (vocals & guitar) and Flo (guitar) are no passing trend, but a deliberate counter-movement to posturing. With no formal musical training and raised in a reactionary small-town environment, they founded kamikaze as both escape and tool for self-empowerment. They taught themselves to play, organized concerts and releases independently—no label, no management. Their DIY spirit permeates everything: from 4-track recordings to self-produced music videos and cassette-only releases.
In “Stop the Sky”, kamikaze captures the tension of a restless city night—where everything should pause, just for a moment: insomnia, empty streets, racing thoughts. And then, in a sudden flash of clarity, the line that changes everything:
“I don’t care what you mean, you don’t hurt what you don’t love.”
The melancholic atmosphere unfolds around a haunting vocal line that peaks emotionally in these words. The song is a cry of longing, born from the struggle to find genuine connection in an overwhelmingly noisy world. “Stop the Sky” reveals kamikaze as night shadows under neon light: vulnerable, yet powerful.
Key milestones to date: two sold-out EPs, a live session at Orange ’Ear, and support slots for The Exbats (2023) and Death Valley Girls (2024). Their shows are often accompanied by the “killer fan from hell”, a recurring motif in their camcorder-shot videos.
Press quotes:
“A sound that wraps around the ear like a gentle veil, whispering of a better life.” — AWAY FROM LIFE
“An idiosyncratic, introspective touch.” — Ox-Fanzine
“This is true indie: passion, self-management, love for music.” — Indie Valley Music
2026 will mark a new milestone: kamikaze will release their debut album, recorded entirely on their own—once again proving how well attitude and pop melodies go hand in hand.

Indie Valley Music Review
“Stop the Sky” is a deeply atmospheric and ethereal piece, with an immersive sound that balances nostalgia and youthful energy. It opens with an emotive guitar arpeggio, subtly layered with chorus, reverb, and delay—creating a texture that sets the stage for an introspective, enveloping landscape.
Jessi’s voice—soft, melodic, and ethereal—weaves poetic verses where existential themes emerge with subtlety, never melodrama. The rhythm section—drums and bass—delivers punch and breadth, rooted in the aesthetics of alt rock and post-punk.
The chorus, seemingly dissonant yet deeply harmonious, marks a turning point: more energetic, more defiant, with Jessi singing with power while preserving her ethereal quality, as guitars and rhythm expand into a rawer, rockier stance.
The track is an exquisite fusion of jangle pop, post-punk, and dream pop, crafted with authenticity and care. What stands out—and moves us—is the duo’s self-managed approach: impeccable production, high-caliber mixing and mastering, and intelligent vocal work—all carried out under the unwavering banner of DIY.
«As we’ve said before—and proudly reaffirm—kamikaze is indie, for real.«
