Italian alternative rock band Forgotten Dream has just unveiled their own version of “Kids”, the iconic track originally written and performed by Current Joys, the solo project of American artist Nick Rattigan. This release represents a significant milestone for the band, showing their ability to honor a beloved classic while infusing it with their unique musical identity.
The original “Kids”, released in 2015, blends indie pop and folk to offer a raw and nostalgic perspective on growing up and transitioning from childhood to adulthood. Forgotten Dream remains loyal to this essence, but elevates it with a more high-energy arrangement. Their version merges elements of grunge and shoegaze, delivering a rich ‘90s-inspired sound that evokes youth, hope, and a captivating sense of rebellion.
The result is a moving and cohesive work that feels entirely their own — yet resonates deeply with the spirit of the original.
The inspiration of Forgotten Dream
Reflecting on why the band chose to reinterpret “Kids”, lead singer Maryanne Muse shared:
“We decided to create our reinterpretation of Kids because it’s a great song, it is simple in its structure but the depth of the lyrics and their meaning is impressive. It is a nostalgic and powerful track, we love how it recalls the innocence of childhood as something irremediably lost but at the same time it suggests that something of that lost paradise is still existing in one’s dreams and desires. The message is clear: to keep the best part of yourself alive you have to believe in your dreams and pursue them. It might seem obvious, but most people unfortunately forget about who they really are, or are forced to do so, to follow someone else’s dreams, losing their spark and identity. It’s tragic.”
