Her fifth solo release is a conceptual journey through history, introspection, and contemporary sound art

American multi-instrumentalist and composer Dede Booth, with over three decades of musical experience, unveils her highly anticipated new album, Age of a Century. This record marks the pinnacle of her evolution as a songwriter and producer, seamlessly blending her roots in progressive rock, post-rock, goth-rock, and styles that shaped her musical identity such as jazz, funk, reggae, and 80s stadium rock.

With a proposal that is both intimate and expansive, Booth delivers a deeply conceptual work, rich in emotion, sonic textures, and reflections on historical repetition and the human condition.

Dede Booth | A musical career that defies conventions

“I’m an observer at heart. When something inspires me, I pursue it. I’ve never believed in a ‘right’ way to do things,” says Dede Booth. That authenticity has been the driving force behind a multifaceted career: from her beginnings as a drummer, to fronting the goth-progressive band Sententia (disbanded in 2012), to composing post-rock for theater.

In 2017, Dede returned to the spotlight as a solo artist, launching a new phase in her career characterized by genre fusion, independent production, and a relentless pursuit of depth and meaning. Age of a Century is, in many ways, the culmination of that path.

Age of a Century | A conceptual work about cycles that repeat

Through seven carefully crafted and emotionally powerful compositions, Age of a Century centers around a compelling theme: history repeating itself, both at societal and personal levels. Inspired by emotional patterns and social structures that trap us, Booth addresses themes such as addiction, institutionalization, and oppression—but also the potential for transformation through memory, connection, and legacy.

“The album reflects on the patterns in human behavior that keep us stuck,” she explains. “But it also highlights the positive impact of history—how the impressions we leave on others can ripple forward in meaningful ways.”

Post-rock and progressive roots: a layered sound between past and present

Sonically, Age of a Century reveals an artist in full command of her voice. The album’s foundation is progressive rock, but its atmospheric, emotional, and textural treatment is deeply influenced by post-rock, a genre Booth has mastered through her work in theatrical composition.

She revisits melodies from past, unreleased songs, and reconnects with genres that shaped her early years: funk, jazz, reggae, and 80s stadium rock. The single “One Way to Return” is a direct nod to her time with Sententia, and the album as a whole serves as a sonic map of her musical journey.

For the first time in her solo career, Booth invited a co-producer into her process: mixing and mastering engineer Tom MacLean (TwelveTone Studio). “Each album has been a progression, and working with Tom felt like the natural next step in pushing my sound even further,” she says.

Critical acclaim: a unique voice in the progressive and alternative scene

Booth’s artistic approach has earned praise from progressive and alternative music outlets for her originality, conceptual clarity, and the way she turns influences into a distinct sonic identity:
