A wall of sound that doesn’t overwhelm—it envelops. Like dreaming awake, and not wanting to wake up.
Shoegaze From LA
Wrecked Sun, the Los Angeles-based shoegaze project, presents “Angel License”—the seventh track on their self-titled debut album, a 35-minute journey across 10 songs that explores the threshold between dream and wakefulness, confusion and clarity.
More than just a song, “Angel License” serves as the album’s emotional and sonic keystone—a piece that captures, with rare precision, the essence of Wrecked Sun: fuzz-drenched guitars, powerful drums, and a soft, melancholic voice that drifts between haze and light.
The music was born in a dark room. That intimate, mysterious atmosphere permeates every track: always a little loud, always a little fragile, always deeply human and existential.
The Essence of “Angel License”
In the words of Wrecked Sun:
“The song Angel License was actually written out of confusion. It was inspired by the sound of the band Glare and juggler. I made it sound like it’s a wall of sound type of feel to embrace the feeling of having something so unique and weirdly beautiful but you can’t comprehend what it is. The angel in the song portrays a being, something foreign that’s trying to send you a message but you can’t understand. And because of that, it made you question your reality and control over oneself. «
«In the end, you’re trying to gain your consciousness by making the entity go back to you and make them explain what’s happening. Only to find out it’s actually a human being and she is out of your league so you made this make-believe world around with the idea that she’s not human and you cannot make them interact with you. Think of the song ‘You’re Beautiful’ by James Blunt. It’s somehow similar to that.”

Wrecked Sun | Angel License | Indie Valley Music Review
“Angel License” is a deeply atmospheric, ethereal, and immersive track—one that wraps the listener from the first second and doesn’t let go until the final whisper. Its lyrics, poetic and subjective, weave a subtle introspection that holds attention from start to finish, while layers of reverb and melancholy—across guitars, bass, drums, and vocals—create a hypnotic sonic texture.
The musical structure is dynamic and coherent: it begins with a nostalgic, ambient arpeggio, sustained by reverb and chorus, before erupting into a classic shoegaze wave—distorted guitars, powerful drums, wide and present bass. These rhythmic elements provide grounding, allowing the ethereal layers of voice and guitar—soft, hazy, almost celestial—to define the track’s emotional core.
The vocal melody, reinforced by the instrumentation, achieves an exquisite synergy: verses and chorus settle naturally in the memory—not through forced repetition, but through melodic and emotional balance.
Technically, the production is impeccable: mixing and mastering of the highest caliber deliver a sound that is clear, deep, and immersive, with a wide dynamic range and a balanced frequency spectrum. The result is a piece that honors the roots of classic shoegaze, yet carries a contemporary, authentic character.
What makes “Angel License” truly stand out is how it distills the full narrative arc of the Wrecked Sun album: the tension between the incomprehensible and the human, between self-constructed myths and the quiet return to reality. It is the track that most faithfully—and movingly—gives shape to the emotional world the entire record builds.
As Wrecked Sun himself describes:
“This track would work well if you’re looking for a shoegaze wall of sound type of feel with calm dreamy vocals. Perfect for nostalgia and emotional catharsis—or if you just want to escape reality for a bit.”
«It’s a true honor for us to present “Angel License” by Wrecked Sun. We encourage everyone to listen to the song—and the full album—on their favorite streaming platform.»
